Access to the jumping area
Harbour walls
Harbour walls can provide a solid jumping point with easy access. It’s almost like going to your local swimming pool and using the top diving board. There are still many things to consider though so read further down for more information. I haven’t jumped from harbour walls so would appreciate comments, advice and feedback.
Piers
I consider piers more dangerous than harbour walls and haven’t attempted to jump from either of my local ones. Usually they are staffed and have signs up warning about jumping in to the water. Due to their design allowing the water to run underneath them, you may be dragged by the current under the pier where collisions with the pier legs can be very dangerous. I have surfed through a pier once after the current dragged me through and it was quite a scary experience.
Cliffs
Coming in all shapes and sizes, and eroded in different ways depending on rock type, cliffs are much more dangerous but can provide better scenery (check out the pictures on this site) and a better variety of jumps. As a big fan of DWS this is by far my preferred option as I get chance to do lots of climbing along with tombstoning.
