Stair Hole visit - 11th May 2008

General Add comments

Sunday was a fantastic day to start our 2008 tombstoning season. It was really hot with great visibility and a reasonable tide. We were in good company as well with DWS climbers, divers and canoeists all enjoying the same section of coast.

After years of using a trusty 35mm Canon Sureshot waterproof camera, it finally died and needed replacing. The replacement (a Vivitar ViviCam6200W) promised video as well as high res still images; and although I’m not as impressed as I hoped I would be, it’s not a bad start to our waterproof video recording. Check out the pictures and video.

All in all a great day out, and one we hope to repeat very soon!

    Hi
Have you looked at the Darwin Awards website , I’m sure there must be an award for you. http://www.darwinawards.com/

I’m not sure tombstoners would qualify. Darwin Award criteria states “A number of foolish but common activities are excluded from consideration”, and from the news coverage, tombstoning certainly is common now.

Hahaha, true, that builder who is paralysed from the neck down after coastgaurds told him not to jump didnt remove himself from the gene pool totally, although it may be hard for him to pass his genes on now. So I suppose he missed out on an a darwin award

having just watched a feature on GMTV about tombstoning I am horrified that this is considred a sport. 17 years ago my brother died whilst tombstoning from a bridge in scotland. The police managed to talk his friend down but not my brother. My brother got caught in an undercurrant and it took 6 weeks for his body to be recovered. This is insane behavior.

Jumping into unknown water (depth & flow) is insane behaviour.

As per my previous post - it is a shame the media have adopted the name Tombstoning for any incident involving jumping into water and hurting yourself.
